Description
What’s in this course?
Lesson 1: Bird of Prey Accommodation and Housing (Core Module C1)
Core Module 1: Bird of prey accommodation and housing is based on the National Standards for bird of prey welfare – devised by internationally renowned falconers and top raptor veterinarians .
For established professionals this is an excellent re-capping of the competences you have built up over time and supports your obligatory annual CPD target.
For new entrants to the field, this is an essential core learning module that is the pre-cursor to all further professional development.
You can read more about the standards and the expertise behind their development here:
Lesson 1 includes:
- Introductory text – a brief introduction about bird of prey accommodation and housing to help set the context of the course.
- A downloadable worksheet – containing a series of questions / tasks that you will need to complete in full. These thelp develop your knowledge and understanding of the accommodation and housing needs of birds of prey kept for commercial purposes. You will upload your completed worksheet in order to complete the course and get your certificate.
- Links to additional information – each module in the professional series guides you to authoritative information from world-class Falconers and Raptor Vets. Even if you are a Falconer of many years standing and experience, you may still find it worthwhile to read or re-read these sources before attempting to complete your worksheet or online quiz.
- An online knowledge test – you must pass this test to get your certificate and your CPD Points / hours. As a professional Falconer you are expected to have the highest level of knowledge about your subject and you will need a 90% pass rate to complete.
- Free online support and advice
- Certification on successful completion of the course
- Successful Candidates for this course are entitled to a ‘credit transfer’ against the Raptor Awards courses “Keeping Birds of Prey’ (modules C1 to C5), and the ‘Combined Course’ (modules C1 to C9)
Lesson 2: Professional extension
This lesson looks in detail at the additional legislative burden imposed by legislation, case law and guidance from other ‘authoritative sources’.
In particular this lesson covers professional impacts of:
- Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
- Animal Welfare Act 2006
- The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018
- Secretary of State’s standards of modern zoo practice
- Other authoritative guidelines.
Lesson 3 – Declaration and Worksheet upload
- Claim your Course Certificate (cpd)
- Upload your worksheet
- Self – declaration of completion
Note: CPD – compulsory professional development
If you are working in a Commercial Bird of Prey operation and are subject to regulation under a Zoo licence or the Animal Activities Regulations, then satisfactory completion of this short course entitles you to record 8 hours CPD on your Individual Training Record. Your training record may be inspected every time your licence is renewed, and should show a pattern of regular CPD activities of at least 30 hours every year.
If you work in any other setting (such as bird control using birds of prey) then you can complete this short course and use your cpd record to demonstrate your commitment to a properly trained workforce.
Your personal CPD recording Tool
